1. What is the International Eucharistic Congress (IEC)?

The International Eucharistic Congress is a worldwide celebration with the aim of deepening the knowledge and the respect for the Eucharist. It is the witness of Catholic Christians about God's love to the world.

2. When and where will it take place?

The IEC will take place in Budapest, between 13 and 20 September 2020.

3. What is the aim of the IEC?

Celebrating Christ in the Eucharist.

Witness to the world about the infinite love of God, who became man, and substantially stayed with us in the Bread of Life.

Furthermore, the aim of the IEC is to make believers familiarize and love this mystery of our faith, and to foster their eucharistic life, in order to form them into authentic, Christian witnesses in a living relationship with Christ, living in the world for the glory of God and the salvation of souls.

4. What are the major events of the IEC?

Opening Mass with First Holy Communion

Every morning plenary sessions, with prayers, witnesses and catecheses.

Eucharistic candle-light procession

Youth evening

Closing Mass

Cultural and other programmes all over the city for everyone.

5. Who is allowed to participate at the IEC?

To take part in the morning programmes of the congress registration is necessary. The afternoon and evening programmes can be freely visited by anyone.

6. What can I do for the IEC?

7. How can we prepare for this event as a community?

Beginning with the Pentecost of 2017 we have prepared a three-year-long pastoral planning, for the first year of which we published a tips booklet on Whit Monday. The booklet can be used at the parishes, family and youth communities, and other fields. This tips booklet will be soon available on our website too.

8. How can participate in the preparation those who are not from Budapest?

In each diocese of Hungary there is a priest who has a liaising role. You have to consult all the initiatives with him, and organize together. We gladly send you the contact details of the responsible person of each diocese in case you need it.
