Christianity Will be the Theme of the Season 2019/2020 of the Hungarian State Opera

As a preparation for the International Eucharistic Congress in 2020 Christianity will be the special theme of the season 2019/20 of the Hungarian State Opera - stated director Szilveszter Ókovács to the Hungarian Press Agency (Magyar Távirati Iroda-MTI).

In the thematic season they will stage plays, which deal with Christianity in its deepness - added the director. This does not include only plays inspired by biblical stores, but also those which acclaim Christianity, or even those, which are debating it, such as Richard Wagner's Tannhäuser. The season will close in the May of 2020 with a Christian-themed festival, paving the way to the 52nd International Eucharistic Congress.

The renovation and modernization of the Opera started a year ago. According to the plans, the building on the Andrássy street will be reopened in the autumn of 2019, but we are planning to season-closing Puccini opera-festival in the spring of 2019 - said Szilveszter Ókovács.
