Consecrations

One of the IEC guest speakers, Cardinal Andrew Yeom Soo-jung, Archbishop of Seoul, South Korea, who is also Apostolic Administrator of Pyongyang, the North Korean Capital, announced the consecration of the Pyongyang Diocese to Our Lady of Fatima.

The Seoul Cathedral was filled with lay worshippers, friars and nuns, all strictly following the health and safety regulations set due to the world pandemic. The ceremony also served to remember the victims of the Korean War that broke out 70 years ago.

The Cardinal’s remembrance was well reasoned, since he was one of the few bishops who, 70 years ago, directly lived through the Korean War. He commemorated the soldiers having been died both on the North and South fronts, the approximately two million civilian victims, the tragic fate of the refugees and the drama of the Christians suffering of persecution.

Both in his homily and by his announcement that the Pyongyang Diocese is to be consecrated to Our Lady of Fatima, the Cardinal encouraged the faithful to undergo a spiritual renewal and to engage themselves in the new evangelization all around the Korean Peninsula.

“When she appeared in Fatima, the Virgin Mary told us to pray for those who do not believe in God. This means that Mother Mary in Fatima is asking us to pray for peace on the Korean Peninsula” – said Cardinal Andrew Yeom Soo-jung, Archbishop of Seoul when paying a visit to the spot of revelation in Portugal.

The Catholic Church has been actively supporting the reconciliation on the Korean Peninsula. In South Korea a Mass for peace is celebrated each day, the first one took place in December of the past year, while the last one is going to be held on November 28, on the last day of the liturgical year.
