Pope Francis sends greetings from the Vatican

22 September 2020
The Holy Father greeted the faithful preparing for the Budapest International Eucharistic Congress.

Following the usual Sunday Angelus prayer Pope Francis extended his greetings to Hungary, the pastors and the faithful and to all those who were expecting with faith and joy the Budapest International Eucharistic Congress. This year a pandemic has interfered, so the World Meeting has been postponed for next year and is going to be held from 5 to 12 September 2021, still in Budapest. Pope Frances asked:

“Spiritually united, we are following this journey of preparation, finding in the Eucharistic the source of the Church’s life and mission.”

As to the original plans the Congress would have ended today with the Statio Orbis on the Heroes’ square. There was a reasonable chance of the Pontiff’s attendance as well. The pandemic, however, has overwritten the plans, thus the Catholic World Meeting can be organised next year only.
