IEC closing ceremony’s specials

The 52nd International Eucharistic Congress ends on September 12, 2021 in Heroes’ Square. The Closing Holy Mass at 11.30 a.m. will be celebrated by Pope Francis.

The last day of the one week long World Event is topped with unique programs that are starred by the IEC messengers, as well as by the musicians and singers of the Hungarian State Opera House.

Prior to the Holy Mass, the introductory program and the Closing Ceremony is featured by a Choir performance, the 2.100 members of which have been lined up exclusively for this occasion. The singers – from a total of 82 choirs countrywide – will appear on stage under the direction of the Zoltán Kodály Hungarian Choir School and Ferenc Sapszon, Choirmaster.

Two fantastic Hungarian athletes, just returning home from the 2021 Tokyo Paralympic Games, are to be greeted during the Congress Closing Ceremony. The exceptional sportswomen are: Luca Ekler, Paralympic athlete, world record holder European and world champion of the Para Athletics Championships, and Gyöngyi Dani, multiple Paralympic silver and bronze medallist in wheelchair fencing. Both of them are messengers of the IEC Volunteers’ Program.

Furthermore we can witness the testimonies of two Jászai Mari awarded actors, Anna Kubik and Csaba Pindroch.

Amongst the music performers, the messengers of the World Event, Sena Dagadu and Gabi Tóth performing artists, as well as the Jazzation Acappella ensemble will be on stage.

Zoltán Kodály’s composition, the “Budavár Te Deum” is going to be presented by the Choir and Orchestra of the Hungarian State Opera House, conducted by Balázs Kocsár, with soloists Erika Miklósa, Lúcia Megyesi Schwartz, Gergely Boncsér and András Palerdi.

The ceremonial Closing Holy Mass is to be celebrated by Pope Francis, while the liturgical music service that of will be provided by the Hungarian State Opera Orchestra and the State Opera's united Choir.
