Service in War on a Donkey, Voluntarily

Cardinal Gérald Lacroix, Archbishop of Québec has spent nine years of service in a guerrilla-controlled warzone in Colombia.
He spoke about his difficulties: “18 villages belonged to the parish. The farthest took an18 hours donkey” reminisced the Cardinal. “Every evening at 7 we celebrated the Holy Mass. There was no electricity, we used candles for lighting. The church was full of children, adults, old men who thirsted to hear God’s words and were happy that we could pray together.”
This was not the first time in Colombia for Gérald Lacroix, born in a poor Canadian family of seven children: he found his vocation and made his perpetual vows here in Colombia.
Pope Benedict XVI nominated him as Archbishop of Québec, he was elevated to the rank of Cardinal in 2014 by Pope Francis. Since then he is tirelessly working for his faithful and accepted to be present as a lecturer at the International Eucharistic Congress. He will have a presentation on the HungExpo.
